1. What subjects do you offer?

Subjects range from Math’s, English, Science and 11 Plus. We would like to take the pressure away from parents by ensuring we take charge of their children’s education outside of School.

  2. What is the difference between online tuition and face-to-face tuition?

There is no difference between the online system and face-to-face tuition apart from the fact that it’s on a computer directly with a live tutor. Your child will be given due attention just like if they were sat opposite a tutor. The material is in line with the National Curriculum and/or state based curriculum areas.
Many parents and tutors report that students work better online. They are free from any distractions and working in the comfort of their own home.

  3. How long are online lessons?

The sessions are one hour. The total teaching time is one hour but we allow extra few minutes at the beginning. This extra time gives the student the opportunity to complete the technology check, solve any issue logging in and get feedback on completed previous tasks. We also use this time to mark homework, upload student work and activate the group chat for interactive educational games.

  4. Are tutors qualified?

All the tutors at Evening School™ are fully qualified teachers with security screenings and Working with Children Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) checks, as well as being members of the Global Professional Tutors Association Limited.

  5. How do I know my child is safe online?

Students access the program through a secure portal. All the staff at Evening School™ have Working with Children Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) checks. The program also alerts the tutor if the student flicks to a new website online.

  6. What happens if the Internet doesn’t work or drops out?

We provide a technology check at the beginning of each teaching session. The technology checker looks at your Internet connection and access to video and microphone. It will also alert the teacher if the student is using Internet Explorer instead of Fire Fox or if a compulsory upgrade needs to be performed.

  7. What do I need on my computer to access Evening School?

When you touch base with Evening School™, your online tutor will email you a clear Quick Start Guide to prepare your computer for the program. You will be required to download Fire Fox. It takes approximately 5 – 10 minutes to download the software required and set up your computer.

  8. How will the tutor mark worksheets and exam papers?

The tutor and the student can upload the manual sheets using the mobile device of your choice. Worksheets are uploaded to our program where the tutor and student can work through the task together on the interactive whiteboard. Additional instructions to upload documents will be provided by the tutor during the enrolment process.

  9. Will my child have homework?

This will be decided during the assessment and with your child’s tutor. Any homework that is allocated will be to help the student consolidate new topics or concepts they learnt during their session. If your child is not coping with the workload at school, additional homework from Evening School™ is not recommended.

  10. Do I need a webcam? Does the program need Skype?

Yes you will need a webcam. The program does not use Skype. We use our own purpose built program. The webcam is activated when the student logs into our site. Many webcams are integrated into laptops and computers nowadays.
